ZESCO UNITED TITLE DEFENSE START ON A HIGH AS CHAMPIONS TARGET SECOND WIN AGAINST INDENI

MTN Super League defending champions ZESCO United began their quest to defend the league title on a positive note with a 2-0 victory over Chambishi football club in a match played at Levy Mwanawasa stadium on Wednesday.

A first half cracking goal from Tafadzwa Rusike and a second half heart stopping goal from Edward Lungu ensured that ZESCO United collected three maximum points from their first game.

ZESCO United Head Coach Numba Mumamba expressed happiness with the players performance following their disappointing exit from the CAF Champions League in the preliminary rounds of the qualifiers.

“I must say the players accounted for themselves very well especially after the elimination from the CAF Champions League. This has shown that we have a mature team which can stand the pressure. They came to the party and we managed to get a victory against a more organized team especially when they were defending. The good thing is us three points which is made a difference.”

Mumamba further expressed happiness with the players that started in Wednesday game.

“There are a lot of games to play as such we had to make several changes. We have enough energy levels in the team. The attitude from these players was very positive compared to Saturday game and that’s what has made a huge difference today,” he said.

Mumamba added that ZESCO United players needed to stay focused in order to ensure that they defend the title.

“We are the team to beat this season especially that we are the defending champions. We have to be at our best and remain focused in each game that we are playing.”

The ZESCO United gaffer was particularly impressed with Edward Lungu’s quick start to life at the club which has seen the winger bag two goals in the last three games he has featured in.

“He is one player who has settled in very quickly looking at the team he is currently playing for. He is a great addition to the side and we only hope Lungu continues doing what he is doing at the club. We will be here to give him all the support that he needs,” Mumamba added.

ZESCO United will be hoping to maintain their winning run when they clash against Indeni at Ndola’s Trade Fair Ground on Saturday.
