EAGLES WERE MORE DETERMINED THAN US: MUMAMBA

ZESCO United Head Coach Numba Mumamba has bemoaned his sides goalscoring drought following a disappointing 0-2 defeat to Green Eagles in Saturdays MTN Super League week 10 fixture held at the Levy Mwanawasa.

Two second half goals from Warren Kunda and Derrick Bulaya ensured that Green Eagles recorded a rare victory at the Levy Mwanawasa stadium against the current Zambian League champions.

ZESCO United created numerous scoring chances in the first half unfortunately the hosts could not make the opportunities count.

In his post-match interview, Mumamba expressed concern with the rate at which his team has continued to drop points.

“We are disappointed with the loss. We are equally worried because we have dropped important points in our last three games. ZESCO United is a big club as such we need to do more to win games.

“This was a game of two halves. We dominated the first half and created numerous scoring chances which could have made a be difference had we been clinical on target. But like we have been crying, our finishing in the final third of the pitch continues to cost us,” he said.

Mumamba said the loss to Green Eagles was as a result of lack of ambition from his side to win yesterday’s encounter.

“Eagles controlled the game in the second half because we gave them too much space. They created few chances which resulted into goals for them. They looked hungrier and more ambitious than us. That was the biggest difference between the two sides.

“We were not too bad in the second half but just gave them too much room to play. We needed to be tight enough. There was also lack of proper communication at the back which proved too costly.”

Mumamba is hopeful that the club will invest in the striking force once the January transfer market opens.

“For now, there is nothing we can do because the window only opens in January. We will reinforce especially the striking force in order to have more options upfront.”
