Kenyan international striker Jesse Were doesn’t expect history to repeat itself when ZESCO United face Forest Rangers in the Ndola derby on Sunday at the Levy Mwanawasa stadium, Ndola.
In recent years, a clash between the two sides has almost become predictable among the games local faithful with Forest Rangers dominating results on the road while ZESCO United dictating the narrative away from home.
The league champions have not beaten Forest Rangers at home since 2016 when ZESCO United won by a single goal with Forest Rangers bagging a 1 nil victory at home.
ZESCO United striker, Were believes tables can flip depending on who wants it the most.
“This is a derby as such things can go either way. But I also believe things can change depending on who wants it the most. In this case we want it the most because we haven’t posted good results in the recent past.
“Being a local derby won’t be easy. Forest Rangers are on a high because they won on Wednesday, but we are focusing on getting maximum points because we are short in this area.
“The lads are pushing in training. We will soon have a full squad when everyone returns from national duties. Kamusoko and Ian are back. Hopefully everyone will be in tomorrow so that the coach has options on Sunday.”
