CHARITY SHIELD FINAL TO SET THE TONE FOR THE NEW SEASON: KAMUSOKO

Zimbabwean International and ZESCO United attacking midfielder, Thabani Kamusoko has charged that Saturday’s Samuel ‘Zoom’ Ndhlovu Charity Shield final between the league champions and Lusaka Dynamos will set the tone for the new football season.

ZESCO United are in contention for a 5th Charity Shield honor provided they sail past the 2021 Absa cup champions when the two teams clash at the MTN Woodlands stadium on Saturday.

Kamusoko believes that Saturday’s mouthwatering encounter between the league and Absa cup champions will be a litmus test for what to expect in the 2021/22 football season.

“It is important to start on a good note especially that this season we are preparing for the league and for the CAF champions league as such we need to start on a high note. This is the first competitive game before we start the league matches and get the confidence. It is important to work hard and win the game,” he said.

Meanwhile, Kenyan International and ZESCO United goalkeeper, Ian Otieno has declared the league champions ready for Saturday’s game.

“The mood in camp is very good. Everyone is working hard. We know they defeated us in the Absa cup final but this one is another final which we can use to make amends.”

Otieno said victory on Saturday will be a psychological boost for ZESCO United players as they prepare to defend the league title and champions league campaign.

“It is important to win because this will be the first trophy of the calendar season. It is important for us psychologically as we prepare for the new season.”

And Otieno has thanked ZESCO United management for signing new players ahead of the new season.

“It’s motivating enough because we know the players, they have brought in have quality. We believe when the league starts, they will bring quality to the team. This is a team and we don’t play football as individuals. We need to work as a team. We are happy for them for having joined us.”
