ZESCO United are seven points short of offsetting the Zambian Army sponsored league leaders, Green Buffaloes in the 2021/22 MTN Super League season.
The 2021 Zambian League champions have not yet hit top-notch form that saw them string a 10-match unbeaten run in last year’s league campaign ultimately leading to a ninth league triumph.
Unlike last season’s debut campaign as club head coach, Numba Mumamba knows the type of ingredients that makes his side tick and falter.
Mumamba is aware of the urgent need for his side to quickly impose themselves on the title race before the likes of Zanaco, Power Dynamos and Green Eagles find their winning formulas.
ZESCO United have thus far amassed 14 points from eight league games with second and first placed Nkwazi and Green Buffaloes sitting on 18 and 21points respectively having played a game better than the defending league champions.
The 2021/22 league campaign has seen ZESCO United lose to Kafue Celtics, Nkana, while managing to pick maximum points against, Kansanshi Dynamos, Kabwe Warriors, Chambeshi and Indeni.
Mumamba’s side has in recent fixtures drawn against Green Buffaloes and Konkola Blades.
ZESCO United’s next league fixture will be Saturday’s encounter against Green Eagles before facing Prison Leopards.
The next two encounters will provide the best opportunity for ZESCO United to close the gap at the top of the log table before hosting Forest Rangers in the famous Ndola derby in the MTN week 12 mouthwatering encounter scheduled for the Levy Mwanawasa stadium.
