ZESCO United head coach Numba Mumamba has commended his side for beating Buildcon 2-3 in yesterday’s MTN week 13 fixtured held at the Levy Mwanawasa stadium, Ndola.
Club attacking midfielder Kelvin Kampamba put the visitors ahead with an exquisite free kick that ended at the back of the net.
Samson Mkandawire doubled the lead for the visitors with a powerful strike that left Benson Mwale helpless.
Former Zanaco striker Chitiya Mususu also got on the scoresheet for the league champions with the easiest of tap ins at close range.
“We are happy to have gotten the three points. This is what we have been looking for in the past four games, but we were unbale to do that. Today we got a victory against a determined side. It was an evenly balanced and contested fixture. Both teams came to the party.
“I am happy because we created chances and scored some good goals. Buildcon almost came back because we were not tight enough in the midfield as such, we allowed them to play and get into the game. Our two midfielders where going too deep into the defense that is why our opponents had the time to get the ball and put us under pressure. This is something we need to work on when we go back in training” Mumamba said.
ZESCO United reduced the deficit at the top of the league table to 10 following Green Buffaloes defeat at the hands of Green Eagles.
“The good thing is that we have won our game. Our focus is on us winning our games and not paying attention to what others are doing. Winning our games is what will get us to the finish line and win the league title.”
Meanwhile Mumamba is delighted with the progress Peter Manyang has made at the club since his arrival from South Sudan
“I can confirm that Peter has made tremendous progress. He is an important player to us and a crucial part of what we are doing. We are moving step by step and like you saw today, he was part of the squad.
“We can’t wait to introduce him to the Zambian game, but we also have to ensure that he starts on a very comfortable note. We will give him a match where he can enjoy himself,” Mumamba concluded.
ZESCO United will this Saturday host Power Dynamos in the MTN Super League week 14 matches to be staged at the Levy Mwanawasa stadium, Ndola.
