ZESCO UNITED AIM TO DISLODGE BUFFALOES

Zambian league defending champions, ZESCO United begin their quest to defend the coveted league title against Red Arrows on Saturday with an away fixture scheduled for Edwin Mboela stadium, Lusaka.

The MTN Super League went on recess two weeks ago with ZESCO United finishing the first half of the league campaign with a crucial 1-nil victory against Prison Leopards and securing Absa cup qualification.

A 1-nill victory against Prison Leopards saw ZESCO United ascend to third position on the league table with Red Arrows taking up second position.

With the transfer window wide open, ZESCO United have released Kenyan International striker Jesse Were and Zimbabwean international midfielder, Tafadzwa Rusike.

Having labored in front of goal for most part of the first half the season, the champions haven’t hesitated to reinforce the squad with the recent signing of Miguel Pedro from Trident football club.

Pedro will be expected to lead ZESCO United frontline as the champions rekindle their hopes cantering away with the league title for the 10th time.

ZESCO United are still religiously active in the transfer window and will be hoping to consolidate the squad before the transfer market ends.

Club Head coach Numba Mumamba will be rallying his side to overturn last years 2-1 defeat at the hands of Red Arrows when the two teams met in the first leg of the season at the Levy Mwanawasa stadium, Ndola.

Mumamba and his squad will be closely monitoring Friday’s proceedings when Green Buffaloes clash against Lusaka Dynamos.

Victory against Red Arrows and defeat for Buffaloes will mean ZESCO United uproots the former from the summit of the league table.
