KAMUSOKO RELISHING A QUICK RETURN

“It is important in life to humble yourself, especially when you move to a new place. That’s what I did when I moved to Zambia to join ZESCO United. I am very fortunate that I have met very good humble people at this football club,” says Zimbabwean international midfielder, Thabani Kamusoko.

Last year, ZESCO United acquired the services of the Zimbabwean international from Tanzanian giants, Young Africans.

Kamusoko, an experienced midfielder, adds to a bucket list of elite signings that ZESCO United have made in recent years.

Bringing Kamusoko to Levy Mwanawasa was another show of the club’s intent to prolong their stay at the summit of the Zambian game.

It was a further testament of the club’s ambition to keep their place among the emerging giants of the African game.

ZESCO United’s unparalleled success both at domestic and international level for the last decade, got to the 31-year-old’s heart.

“I joined ZESCO United because they are a big name in the African game and they are a big team in Zambia. The team has very good ambitions on and off the pitch. The team plays some fantastic football and has won many trophies. They also give any footballer an opportunity to showcase their skills at continental level,” explains Kamusoko.

Kamusoko does not only bring massive experience in the team especially in the middle of the park. The Zimbabwean international midfielder has also a sharp eye for goals too.

He has thus far banged in 3 goals in the league and one in the preliminary rounds of the CAF champions league. The latter coming against his former side, Young Africans.

“My prayer was never to meet Young Africans because that’s where I came from. Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be. God planned it all for me because they were the last team we met in the final round of qualifiers. I am happy I scored against them but I was equally sad because I have good memories of playing for Young Africans.”

Kamusoko’s rise to stardom at ZESCO United was prematurely cut short when he sustained a severe injury in training ahead of a crucial CAF Champions league tie, against five-times African Champions, TP Mazembe.

“It has been a difficult and disappointing experience for me. I got injured at a crucial time when I was just starting to enjoy life at the club. When I signed for this club, I wanted people to see the calibre of a football player I am. I am a very committed person. I had set targets for myself and the team. I wanted to be a major part of the club’s success in the league and Champions league,” he said.

Since sustaining his injury, Kamusoko underwent an operation which has kept the midfield genius off the pitch.

However, the Zimbabwean and ZESCO United midfielder has assured the fans of his quick return to the side.

“I miss the fans especially their passion towards the team. Some fans send me messages of goodwill and that keeps me strong. I am recovering very well and will be back in the game very soon. The club has given me the best medical support for me to be where I am at the moment. I am with the team in spirit.”

Kamusoko has continued with his rehabilitation and it may not be too long before the midfielder return to where he belongs.
