POWER BEAT ZESCO UNITED IN A FRIENDLY

FAZ/MTN Super League Champions, ZESCO United this morning lost 2-0 to Power Dynamos in friendly match played at Ndola’s Trade Fair grounds.

Both sides were using the game to prepare for their next FAZ/MTN Super League fixtures with ZESCO United travelling to Lusaka to face Lusaka Dynamos on Sunday while Power Dynamos host Forest Rangers on the same day.

Both sides used arguably their strong sides with Jesse Were and John Makwata leading the front line for ZESCO whilst Dave Daka, Larry Bwalya commanded proceedings for Dynamos.

The friendly game provided the spark that often reverberates when these two sides clash. However, it was ZESCO United who had the first attempt on target in the 15’ minute through Jesse Were whose powerful header ricocheted against the upright with Jackson Kakunta well beaten.

A goalkeeping error from ZESCO United’s Ian Otieno allowed Power Dynamos to take the lead in the 20’ minute through George Chisala whose long range strike from the centre circle comically passed between the legs of the Champions shot stopper.

In the second half ZESCO United asked all the right questions through Makwata and John Ching’andu. However, the champions couldn’t get an equaliser.

Alex Ngonga put the story to bed with an 85’minute superbly taken goal after he was put through by Adrian Chama whose poorly headed back pass comfortably fell into the tracks of the Power Dynamos lethal striker.

Ngonga calmly beat Otieno to double the score line for the visiting team.

It was an important friendly for both Power Dynamos and ZESCO United as both teams attempt to retain some match fitness following the restart of the Zambian Super League which was temporarily suspended due to the outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic.

Last weekend ZESCO United drew 1-1 against Kansanshi Dynamos while Power Dynamos drew 1-1 with Buildcon in the FAZ/MTN Super league.
