Our History

ZESCO United Football club was founded in 1974, in Ndola, Zambia. The Club is wholly owned and sponsored by the state owned electricity company-ZESCO Limited. The club became the first Zambian club to qualify for the CAF African Champions’ League Group stage in 2009. ZESCO United also became the first Zambian Club this century to play against European opposition when they played against Zenit Saint Petersburg in Abu Dhabi in 2008.

They reached their first-ever semi-finals of the CAF African Champions League after a 2–2 draw away to Egyptian league champions Al Ahly in Matchday 5 of the Champions’ League quarter-final group stage.

They extended their all-time unbeaten home record against non-Zambian teams to 26 games on Saturday, September 17, 2016, after a 2–1 home win against South African league champions Mamelodi Sundowns FC in the CAF African Champions League.

The Club’s home ground is the Levy Mwanawasa Stadium with a seating capacity of 49,800 in Ndola. The Levy Mwanawasa stadium has been its home ground since 2012.

The club does not have its own stadia; however, the club has lease agreements with the following:

Levy Mwanawasa Stadium- The club has lease agreement with Levy Mwanawasa Stadium Management for use of the facility Trade Fair Grounds. The club has a lease agreement with the Trade Fair Grounds Management as an alternative training ground.

The club turned professional and joined the super league in 2003. Since its
formation, the Club is synonymous with fame and glory both domestically and at continental level.

The club has participated and won: 8 FAZ Leagues, 4 Charity Shield Cups, 1 MOSI Cup, 5 Barclays Cups, and 1 Coca cola Cup. CAF-1 quarter Final, 1 Semi Final, 2 Runners up.

Corporate Governance
ZESCO United Football Club is governed by the Board of Directors appointed by the Sponsoring company- ZESCO Limited through wide consultations. To support the Board in the running of the Club, is the Executive Committee team headed by the Club Chairman. Other members are; General Secretary, General Treasurer, Legal Counsel and Committee members.
