Last year, Zimbabwean international midfielder, Thabani Kamusoko made a switch from Tanzanian giants Young Africans to join eight times FAZ/MTN Super League Champions ZESCO United.
The signing of Kamusoko was part of a series of changes management at ZESCO United decided to make following the departure of star players such as Lazarous Kambole, who had decided to join Kaizer Chiefs.
Kamusoko arrived at a time when ZESCO United had just retained the Super League title and won the Absa Cup for a record six-times. The team was further gunning for silverware in the 2019/2020 CAF Champions.
It didn’t take long for the Zimbabwean veteran midfielder to make an impact at his new found home.
Kamusoko registered 3 goals in the League and one in the CAF Champions League preliminary round against his former side Young Africans before sustaining a terrible leg injury that has kept him out of the game for over nine months.
The road to recovery has been gradual for the midfielder who had to undergo an operation. In recent weeks, Kamusoko has been training with the main team as part of the recovery process.
“I am feeling very strong. At the moment I am working on things like muscle strengthening, flexibility and endurance.
Training with the guys has also been a good motivation for me. Being around the team has made me to work extra hard and they are also encouraging me to continue pushing. It is different when one is training alone,” he said.
Kamusoko’s road to full fitness may take some time. However, the ZESCO United veteran midfielder is positive of a quick return to action.
“I am getting closer to doing things like kicking the ball and doing other physical things that I was previously failing to do. I have given myself an ultimatum of four games to get back in shape. I am positive I will be ready to play after that subject to clearance from the team doctors and our physio.
I am saying these things because I am confident and I have faith that I will soon get back to full fitness.”
Kamusoka has also urged the team to keep working hard as the season slowly gets to a close.
“We have to keep pushing as a team and get the necessary points. The guys are working very hard in training and I am sure that will translate into positive results.”
