Eight-times Super League champions ZESCO United will this Saturday face Zesco shockers as part of the club’s pre-season preparations.
The team which shifted base from Ndola to Mongu, Western province has intensified its pre-season preparations ahead of the 2020/2021 FAZ/MTN Super League season.
Newly appointed head coach, Numba Mumamba has been leading his charges in what has been a grilling training schedule in the sandy and sweltering Mongu terrain.
Mumamba has not hidden his desire to give everyone a chance to prove themselves worth remaining at the club.
“What is important is for players to prove that they are worth being at this football club. I am not here to make speedy and radical decisions. I will give everyone the same opportunity so that they can prove themselves worth keeping.
Our additions to the squad will be based on the assessment we will make from the current setting.”
Mumamba who is being deputized by former Young Africans assistant coach, Noel Mwandila, has his eyes firmly set on retaining the FAZ/MTN Super League title to the Ndola based side.
“It is sad that we failed to qualify for CAF next seasons due to unforeseeable circumstances. However, it is important that we focus on getting back to our winning ways. The first target is of course to retain the title and qualify for CAF competitions.
What is crucial is for everyone to give their whole to this great football club. We will definitely bounce back.”
In Mongu, ZESCO United is without Kelvin Kampamba and Bruce Musakanya, who have since joined the National team ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations preparations.
Kenyan international goalkeeper, Ian Otieno, also left camp on Tuesday ahead of his pending trip to Kenya to join the Harambee Stars who are also preparing for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
The team has been bolstered by the arrival of former Young Africans and Congolese striker, David Molinga.
ZESCO United are expected to face Zesco Shockers on Saturday before returning to Ndola on Sunday.
