MUMAMBA’S REIGN BEGINS AS ZESCO UNITED FACE NAPSA STARS

Eight-times FAZ/MTN Super League champions, ZESCO United will this afternoon begin their quest to re-claim the league title when they face the country’s envoy in the CAF Confederation Cup Napsa Stars in a week one fixture scheduled for Woodlands stadium in Lusaka.

Today’s fixture will also be Numba Mumamba’s first game as ZESCO United head coach.

Mumamba will be rallying his charges to provide the best response after having a dismal 2019/2020 football season which saw the club lose the title and finish outside the top four.

ZESCO United have made a series of exciting signings during the transfer window which has seen the capture of Kelvin Kampamba, Bruce Musakanya, Lazarous Phiri and Congolese international striker, David Molinga.

Coach Mumamba and his technical bench will arguably be facing a difficult time in coming up with their best eleven considering the abundance of talent at their disposal.

ZESCO United players come into today’s fixture knowing to well that three maximum points will be a perfect way to welcome their new coach and the best way to calm the nerves of their supporters.

However, the Ndola based outfit will also be wary of the threat that Napsa Stars poses especially after last year’s 2-1 away defeat at the hands of the latter.

Coach Mumamba is however, unperturbed by what happened last year and expects his charges to deliver when the full-time whistle is blown.

“We have enough ammunition in this team that can help get the desired results. What we need is to prepare the team and psych them properly for us to comeback with a positive result.”

When reminded of last year’s 2-1 defeat Mumamba responded: “This is a time to start afresh and not look at what happened in the past. You can lose a game but we expect ourselves to come back stronger. We are going there as a wounded team.

Mumamba will be looking forward to unleash Kelvin Kampamba who has been a marvel to watch in national colours.

The exciting midfielder will be hoping to replicate his performances at national team level and deliver the perfect output for TeamYaziko.

Jesse Were and Winston Kalengo will both be salivating for those defense splitting passes being supplied from the middle of the park from either Musakanya or Kampamba.

Kenyan international goalkeeper, Ian Otieno will be hoping to begin his first full season with ZESCO United with a clean sheet.

The exciting young goalkeeper will largely be relying on United’s defence to ensure that Napsa Stars strikers are not given room to score.
