ZESCO United head coach, Numba Mumamba has tipped ZESCO United players to shine in the on-going 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying series.
The eight times Zambian Super League champions have contributed five players who will be representing their respective countries in the back to back qualifiers.
John Makwata, Ian Otieno, and David Owino were all called up to the Kenyan National team that yesterday faced Comoros in a 1-all draw match played at the Moi International Sports Complex.
Both Makwata and Owino played a part in the stalemate whilst Arnold Origi started in goal for Kenya ahead of ZESCO United goalkeeper, Ian Otieno.
The two countries will clash again on November 15 in Moroni.
Mumamba will closely be monitoring the performance of ZESCO United attacking midfielders, Kelvin Kampamba and Bruce Musakanya when the Chipolopolo boys clash against the Zebras of Bostwana today at the National Heroes stadium in Lusaka.
Both Musakanya and Kampamba have been a major part of newly the assembled Zambia National team side led by head coach, Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic.
The duo will be hoping to play some role in this evenings encounter having been instrumental in the four friendlies Zambia played last month, with Kampamba bagging two goals.
Meanwhile Mumamba has challenged the players to give their best both at National and club level.
“To all our national team players, I think we expect them to perform better especially when they come back to the club. They have to show that they are national team players. There has to be a distinction between the local guys and those playing for the national teams.
There must be that difference even for a soccer fan to see just by the way the National Team is performing on the pitch. That is what we expect from them.”
This evening Zambia takes on Botswana in a crucial Africa Cup of Nations qualifier. Coach Sredojevic, will be gunning for a crucial home victory against Botswana before the copper bullets face the Zebras four days later in Francistown.
