ZESCO UNITED IN REDEMPTION MODE AS THEY PREPARE FOR GBFC

ZESCO United head coach Numba Mumamba will be expecting his charges to immediately recover from their recent defeat at the hands of the 2017 Zambian Super League champions, Zanaco Football Club.

On Wednesday, ZESCO United players had an afternoon to forget after Zanaco trounced them by 3-1.

A spectacular bicycle kick from Zanaco striker, Moses Phiri, cleanly went passed an outstretched Ian Otieno to give the Bankers the lead in the 9’ minute.

In the 44’ minute Clement Mwape levelled matters for the visitors however, his header was controversially flagged for an offside.

Shortly after the restart of the second half, Baba Basile added a second after a lapse in defence from the ZESCO United defenders.

The game was put to rest in the 80’ minute courtesy of a Roger Kola well taken shot that went passed Otieno.

ZESCO United midfielder, Kelvin Kampamba pulled one unfortunately there wasn’t enough time for the former champions to conjure a comeback.

Mumamba’s post-match comments summed up what was a very disappointing afternoon for the visitors: “Disappointing result in the end. We gave Zanaco too much space that resulted in us conceding goals. We failed to pick our opponents in our penalty box. I think we have made a few mistakes that have resulted in us losing the game.”

ZESCO United returned to training this morning as they shift focus to Sunday’s week six clash against the Army side, Green Buffaloes.

Mumamba will not be expecting any slipups from his defenders who were twice caught napping leading to the second and third goal.

“As we go back in training we will work on lapses that we have seen especially in defense. We didn’t play very well today although our overall performance wasn’t that bad from the players. There were some improvements in the second half resulting in a consolation goal for us.”

The coach will further be asking his frontmen to be more clinical on target after having squandered some good scoring opportunities against Zanaco.

“That is another concern especially for a team like us. When you miss such opportunities that is the usually the outcome. Zanaco only had three clear cut chances which they scored. That’s what has made a big difference in the game,” Mumamba concluded.

ZESCO United will this coming Sunday face Green Buffaloes in a week six match to be played at the Levy Mwanawasa stadium.

Where is Sabumukama and why is Bruce and others . Zanaco came to feast in our 18yard box because the midfield was not there.
