ZESCO UNITED RETURNS ITS OOMPH

ZESCO United coach Numba Mumamba has in the last 10 days managed to inject some life in his side after the 8 times league leaders lost their FAZ/MTN Super league week 16 fixture to Young Green Eagles.

The former league champions have grappled to string consistent victories a feat that has made it difficult to permanently dominate proceedings at the top the log table.

ZESCO United have yet again risen from a minor setback, dispatching some of the super leagues in form teams like Buildcon to a tune of 3-1.

7 days ago, Mumamba talked about the need for his players to refocus and concentrate their energies on upcoming fixtures after losing to Young Green Eagles by 1-0.

The Ndola based league giants have responded in style, by beating Buildcon and recently dispatching Power Dynamos 2-1 in the FAZ/MTN week 14 rescheduled league encounter played at the Levy Mwanawasa.

In his post-match comments, Mumamba congratulated his team for showing character and resilience when they went down by a goal in the first minutes of the game:

“Playing Power Dynamos was always going to be tough. They came to destabilize us and they were equally rough. The referee couldn’t control the game.

The good thing is that the team accounted for themselves very well and we have managed to get a victory in today’s game.”

After seeing his side cruise past Buildcon, Mumamba’s prayer was to overcome a much fancied and resilient Power Dynamos.

“This is what I can term as a God answered prayer because we really needed this victory to get to the top. By doing so, means that God has answered our prayer.

It is important on our part to be on top. We have been singing on the need to win matches and I think this game will motivate us as we begin to prepare for other games. We want to start picking points in the second round. If we can try and win five games consistently then we will be in the race to challenge of the title,” Mumamba said.

However, the ZESCO United’s gaffer has bemoaned the team’s failure to avoid conceding goals in the early stages of their last two games.

“It is our concern because we can’t be conceding goals in the early minutes of the game. Conceding goals like that can have implications on the team. But am happy we responded well.”

  1. We don’t only need to win games but to play well and have convincing wins. The coach by now should have his starting eleven well established. It’s time to prepare for continental football.
