ZESCO United coach, Numba Mumamba has challenged his players to beat Forest Rangers on Sunday and put an end to the jinx that has haunted the Ndola based league giants in the recent past.
Forest Rangers will this Sunday host ZESCO United in the famous Ndola derby to be played at the Levy Mwanawasa stadium.
In recent years, Forest Rangers have dominated this fixture with ZESCO United’s recent 0-1 home defeat at the hands of their foes coming in week 2 of the 2020/2021 FAZ/MTN Super League season.
On Sunday, ZESCO United will have a big opportunity to upset the tables by beating Forest Rangers at their own turf when the two sides clash in the FAZ/MTN week 19 fixture.
The ZESCO United gaffer will be salivating for revenge especially that the hosts became the first team to dent Mumamba’s home record since joining the 8 times league champions.
“We have done our homework. We lost to them in our first meeting of the season. However, we have done enough work to make sure that we turn the tables.
I have heard that Forest Rangers always have an upper hand over ZESCO United but I think this should come to an end. Football should be played on the pitch and it’s about how we apply ourselves on the pitch that will determine the outcome.”
Mumamba expects his players to stamp authority on Sunday’s fixture and show the difference between the two clubs.
“We have been talking to the players in order to remove that feeling that Forests always beats us. We will be getting into this game with a positive mindset. This is an important game for us as we challenge for the title. ZESCO United is a bigger cub than Forest but we need to show that by beating them.”
Meanwhile, ZESCO United will be without veteran Zimbabwean midfielder Thabani Kamusoko and Bruce Musakanya.
“The team has been shaping up very well for Sundays game. Unfortunately we will be missing the services of Kamusoko who has been excused due to family commitments. Bruce is still recovering from an injury he sustained at CHAN in Cameroon.”
Mumamba will be hoping to make it 3 out of 3 after beating Buildcon and more recently dispatched Power Dynamos by 2-1.
“We are in the second round of matches as such it is important to maintain consistency. This is the more reason this game is very important to us in terms of gathering 3 maximum points.”
