ZESCO UNITED DRAWS KANSANSHI DYNAMOS IN ABSA CUP

FAZ/MTN Super League giants ZESCO United will face FAZ/Eden University National Division One side Kansanshi Dynamos in the 2020/2021 Absa Cup Championship to be staged at the MTN Woodlands stadium, Lusaka.

ZESCO United discovered their opponents in this year’s Absa Cup tournament during the Absa Cup draws held today at the Radisson Blue hotel, Lusaka.

Numba Mumamba’s side will be eager to make amends for last season’s failure to defend the league title and missing out on continental football by winning this year’s competition.

The eight times league champions are enjoying fine form in the league where they currently sit on second position with 34 points two behind league leaders Zanaco Football Club who have thus far played two more games than the former.

Kansanshi Dynamos on the other hand will be looking forward to this mouthwatering fixture following their impressive run in the Eden University National Division One where they currently sit on second position with 36 points with Konkola Blades occupying the top slot with 39 points.

Today’s draws will also see Zanaco Football Club face Kabwe Warriors, Lusaka Dynamos clash against Prison Leopards while Forest Rangers will come head to head with in form Konkola Blades.

According to Absa, this year’s winners will walk away with K600, 000 while the runners up will pocket K250, 000.

The competition will also see the Man of the Tournament walk away with K25, 000 while the Player of the Tournament will pocket K25, 000.

Match day Man of the Match, will be guaranteed K15,000 while each participating team will pocket K20,000 as part of a token to be used in tournament preparations.

The first round of matches are scheduled to be played between 13 and 14 March, 2021 at the MTN Woodlands Stadium, Lusaka.

Qualification to the Absa Cup competition is reserved for the top six teams in the super league and two teams in the National Division as at Week 17 of the football season.

ZESCO United are the last team to have won the competition in 2019 after beating Zanaco 4-1 at the Levy Mwanawasa stadium, Ndola.
