On September 5, 2020, Bruce Musakanya made a prolific switch from the Zambia Airforce sponsored side Red Arrows to ZESCO United Football Club.
Musakanya’s two-year loan transfer move to ZESCO United was music to the ears of many club followers who at that point were agonizing over the team’s failure to defend the league title, subsequently missing out on a place in both the CAF Champions league and Confederation cup.
The attacking midfielders loan transfer was a big statement of intent from the club’s management in the quest to return the club to the summit of the Zambian game.
However, not all has been rosy for one of the countries exciting midfielder since making his stellar move to the Ndola based league giants.
Musakanya has played a handful of games in ZESCO United colours and was among a handful of players who were consistently called up for national team duties by Chipolopolo coach Milutin ‘Micho’ Sredojevic.
His prospects of making an impact at the club have been frustrated following a leg injury sustained at the Cameroon 2021 CHAN tournament.
Since his return from Cameroon, Musakanya has spent most of his time on the sidelines as part of his recovery process.
In recent weeks, the midfielder has made tremendous progress which has seen him return to full training and recently played in ZESCO United’s friendly against Forest Rangers.
“It has been very difficult for me especially that every player wants to play football. I got an injury that has resulted in me being out of action for a while now. I thank God that I have recovered from it which is good for me because I need to start playing as soon as possible,” he said.
Musakanya understands the pressures that come with playing for a massive club like ZESCO United.
“There are high expectations when you sign for a team like ZESCO United. People were expecting a lot when I joined the club. Unfortunately, it wasn’t my wish to get injured.
I am happy that I have recovered and looking forward to helping the team challenge and eventually win the league.”
Being out of action can be detrimental to a player’s prospects of getting back in the team. However, Musakanya is determined to fight for his place and be part of ZESCO United’s success.
“The team has been doing very well. I am happy with them. It won’t be difficult for me to be part of the team. I want to also contribute something to the team’s growth and towards our efforts to win the title.”
Last week, ZESCO United coach Numba Mumamba expressed happiness with Musakanya’s progress.
“He is getting better each passing day. We are very optimistic that he will be ready to play for the club next week (This week).”
