ZESCO United are on cloud nine. The players are walking with their heads high once again.
A visit at the Trade Fair grounds, the club’s historical home ground now turned into an official training facility gives one a glimpse of what it means to be part of this team at this stage of the season.
Feelings of doubt are meteorically ebbing away and in their place; belief, greatness, and confidence is taking center stage.
A great sense of the inevitable is filtering through the minds of the technical bench and players. It is too early to call it, however coach Numba Mumamba and his players are fully aware of the possibility of cantering away with the championship before the season ends.
ZESCO United have won six games on the trot collecting 18 points in the process. They have achieved this feat against some of the league’s finest teams.
Last Sunday, ZESCO United opened-up a seven-point gap at the top of the league table following their 2-1 victory against second placed Zanaco Football Club.
This Saturday the Ndola based league giants will be aiming to roast the Zambian army sponsored Green Buffaloes in the FAZ/MTN Super League week 23 away tie scheduled for Zanaco’s Sunset Stadium in Lusaka.
Coincidentally, second placed Zanaco will also take to the field hours later against Lusaka Dynamos in what promises to be an explosive double header at the same venue.
Coach Mumamba knows that victory against Green Buffaloes and possibly a draw or lose for Zanaco will widen the gap further at the top of the league table.
Mumamba’s side has been bolstered by the return of Chanda Mukuka while Chitiya Mususu and Bruce Musakanya are battling for match fitness.
An injury blow to Adrian Chama will perhaps see Solomon Sakala take up the responsibility of marshalling the backline.
ZESCO United will not be fooled by Green Buffaloes recent league woes that has seen the Lusaka based army sponsored team drop into the relegation zone.
The former league champions will require the same amount of determination and energy to tame the struggling wounded Buffaloes.
Simone Silwimba, Clement Mwape, Solomon Sakala, Mwila Phiri will be charged with the responsibility of keeping the wounded Buffaloes from piercing its horns through Ian Otieno.
Kelvin Kampamba, Donashano Malama, Chanda Mukuka, Thabani Kamusoko and John Chingandu will all be expected to cause havoc in the middle of the park and ensure that ZESCO United strikers are not starved from supply.
Enock Sakala, Jesse Were, David Molinga, and Winstone Kalengo will be expected to cause mayhem in front of the Green Buffaloes defenders and help the team collect the much needed three points.
Tomorrow Green Buffaloes host ZESCO United in the FAZ/MTN Super League week 23 encounter scheduled for Sunset Stadium.
