SUPER LEAGUE TITLE REMAINS SWEETER: OTIENO

Kenyan International goalkeeper, Ian Otieno has urged ZESCO United players to quickly shift focus to the Zambian Super League after surrendering their Absa cup title to Lusaka Dynamos.

ZESCO United failed to defend and win their seventh coveted league cup following Saturday’s 3-1 defeat on penalties to Lusaka Dynamos in the Absa cup finals played at the MTN Woodlands stadium, Lusaka.

Despite the defeat, ZESCO United shot stopper, Otieno believes the club has everything to fight for in the Zambian Super League.

“We are disappointed that we lost the final. Our objective was to win both the league and the league cup. Unfortunately, the latter hasn’t materialized. There is no need for us to feel demoralized because we still have the super league to fight for,” he said.

Otieno who saved two penalties in Saturdays thrilling final feels the league still remains the most prestigious cup to win.

“The target now is to go for the league. Yes the league cup is sweet but the Zambian super league is sweeter. We need to quickly adjust from Saturday’s defeat and focus on Wednesday’s game against Red Arrows. Our aim is to win the league title and get back into the CAF Champions League.”

ZESCO United coach Numba Mumamba also echoed Otieno’s sentiments after seeing his side painfully lose on penalties.

“For us what has happened has happened. We need to focus on the next games in the league. We will work on the mental aspect of the game so that we restart our league games on a positive note.”

ZESCO United will this Wednesday host Red Arrows in the FAZ/MTN Super league week 26 fixture scheduled for the Levy Mwanawasa stadium, Ndola.
