KAMPAMBA BREAKS ARROWS AS MUMAMBA CHEERS WONDER GOAL

ZESCO United yesterday beat a resilient Red Arrows side 2-1 in the FAZ/MTN super league week 26 fixture to open an eight point gap at the top of the Zambian Super League table.

The Ndola based league giants have thus far collected 49 points from 23 games with second placed Forest Rangers swimming in 41 points after 26 games whilst third placed Zanaco have 39 points from 23 games.

Red Arrows started yesterday’s game on a lightning speed with Allassane Diarra putting the visitors ahead after only 25 seconds.

ZESCO United got themselves back into the game after Benedict Chepeshi was judged to have handled the ball in his own penalty box.

Green Buffaloes and Zambian international defender Adrian Chama levelled matters for the hosts after sending Arrows goalkeeper, Kenny Mumba the wrong way.

In the second half coach Numba Mumamba’s men surged forward with the intention of finding a winning goal.

Chitiya Mususu and Enock Sakala were thrown into the fray adding more misery to the visiting team.

However, it was former Nkana Football Club attacking midfielder, Kelvin Kampamba who stole the show with a jaw breaking wonder goal to break the Airmen’s hearts with only 10 minutes remaining on the clock.

Kampamba picked the ball in Arrows half before squeezing the it between Bissong Elvis legs subsequently unleashing a ferocious shot that proved to hot for Mumba to stop.

ZESCO United cantered away with a crucial victory that firmly puts them in a crucial position to win the FAZ/MTN league title.

Meanwhile ZESCO United coach Numba Mumamba has commended the team for having shown character after going a goal down in the early stages of the game.

“We conceded that early goal due to lack of concentration. That goal gave them (Arrows) a lot of confidence and clearly showed that they were a team that came here to get a result. But after a pep talk just after halftime, we saw a different team; the attitude was fantastic

The only thing we are happy with is the result because we really needed this victory so that it motivates us especially after coming from a defeat in the Absa cup final,” he said.

The ZESCO United gaffer hyped praise on club attacking midfielder Kelvin Kampamba after the former scored a beauty of a goal that ensured that Arrows left the beautiful city of Ndola empty handed.

“We are very happy with what Kelvin is doing especially in the last two games. He has been exceptional and all we can do is to continue encouraging him. He is a very good player who is very talented. I think if he continues the way he is performing, better and bigger doors will open for him abroad.”
