This weekend, ZESCO United have an opportunity to open a 12-point gap at the summit of the Zambian Super league table following Zanaco and Forest Rangers failure to collect maximum points in their respective midweek fixtures.
Yesterday Zanaco were held to 1-all draw by Lumwana Radiants while Forest Rangers lost 2-1 at home to Green Buffaloes.
ZESCO United were scheduled to host Green Eagles however the latter requested the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) to postpone the game to a date to be announced.
A draw at Lumwana Radiants mean that Zanaco have 43 points from 25 games while Forest Rangers have 41 points from 28 games.
ZESCO United currently sit at the top of the league table with 52 points having played 24 games with only 10 games to play.
The former league champions will this coming Saturday travel to Lusaka to face the Zambia Police Service sponsored Nkwazi Football Club in an early kick-off to be staged at Sunset stadium.
Later in the day, second placed Zanaco will face Kabwe Warriors in what is expected to be a must win encounter for the Bankers if they are to keep their title hopes miraculously alive.
Nkwazi will come into Saturday’s fixture against ZESCO United after having drawn 2-all with Nkana Football Club at Nkana stadium.
That draw left Nkana players licking their wounds as pressure to survive relegation continues to mount on the Wusakile Boys who last season won the 2019/2020 Super League title in unforeseen circumstances.
ZESCO United coach Numba Mumamba will be staring at another potential victory which will stretch their winning run to 10 consecutive league victories.
Before Indeni’s victory, Mumamba decided to rest several of his key players owing to minor injuries and fatigue.
The failure to play Wednesday’s midweek game against Green Eagles has given Mumamba’s players enough time to recover and mount another slalom run of victories.
Like many team’s that have faced ZESCO United in the last nine games, Nkwazi will be hoping to be the first team to delay the former league champions from being crowned league champions sooner than later.
The Zambia Police Service sponsored side currently sit on seventh position with 38 points having played 28 games.
Securing a midtable position will require Nkwazi to prob an in form ZESCO United whose unrelentless desire to punish their opponents doesn’t seem to ebb away.
This Saturday, Nkwazi Football Club host ZESCO United in the week 28 FAZ/MTN Super league fixture to the staged at Sunset stadium.
