ZESCO UNITED BEGIN NEW SEASON PREPS WITH DEVELOPMENTAL TEAMS TRIALS

Barely a month since they were crowned Zambian Super League champions, ZESCO United will next week begin trials targeting players from developmental teams as part of preparations for the 2021/22 league season.

ZESCO United football club management has made it a ritual to organize trials targeting promising players from the club’s feeder teams to compete for promotion to the senior team before the start of every league campaign.

Club Developmental Sub-Committee Chairman, John Chirwa says the trials that start on Monday will attract 33 players.

“On Monday, players from ZESCO Victoria Falls, ZESCO Mansa, ZESCO Malaite Rangers, ZESCO Mongu Shockers, ZESCO Solwezi and ZESCO United U19 will assemble in Ndola for what promises to be a weeklong trial run that will see the best graduate to the senior team,” Chirwa said.

Meanwhile ZESCO United Football Club Chief Executive Officer, Richard Kabwe Mulenga says the trials are in line with the club’s policies.

“It is our policy that before we go in the transfer market, we give ourselves a chance to look at the players representing us in various developmental teams including the youth teams.

Remember, these developmental teams have been formulated to develop and nurture players with the objective of passing them on to ZESCO United football club,” he said.

And Mulenga has expressed optimism that the trials will yet again avail to the technical bench a new breed of ZESCO United’s future stars.

“We are profoundly excited to have these trials because that’s where we will see the next future stars of this institution. The club has a lot of confidence in its structures especially when it comes to talent identification.”

Mulenga added that ZESCO United’s league triumph is partly due to the positive impact young players had on the team.

“Last season we won our ninth title thanks to the contribution of Enock Sakala, John Chishimba, Samson Mkandawire and Samuel Sikaonga. These four boys came from our feeder teams and they were exceptional during the past season. This is the more reason these trials are very crucial to us.”
