ZESCO United coach Numba Mumamba has expressed delight with the club’s decision to sign South Sudanese National Team captain, Peter Maker Munyang.
Munyang, 27, has penned a 2-year deal with the nine-times Zambian Super League champions subject to completing medicals.
Mumamba expects the South Sudanese defender to add value to the team’s backline:” We are happy that the club has secured the services of Manyang. This is a chance for us to fill the void in defense. He will help us consolidate our defense as we prepare for the new season. Our only hope is that he performs to our expectations,” he said.
Meanwhile, Mumamba says his charges will need to work extra hard ahead of the 2021/22 football season.
The ZESCO United gaffer will lead the team into another exciting football season which will see the Zambian Super League champions make a return in the CAF champions league.
ZESCO United were last week drawn against Roya Leopards of Eswatin in the preliminary round of the 2021/22 CAF Champions League.
Featuring on Sun Fm Sports Show on Saturday, Mumamba expects his charges to put up a strong performance ahead of the new campaign.
“I have very little information about our opponents (Leopards) but looking at the way the Eswatin National team has been performing, it is very clear that they are a good team. They have very mature players and I believe they won’t be pushovers,” he said.
And Mumamba says ZESCO United will not rely on statistics to beat Royal Leopards when the two teams clash.
“I don’t believe in statistics. What we need to do as a team is to prepare adequately for this fixture. We have to work hard to collect maximum points and what matters are solid preparations.”
He said the primary target for the club is to get into the Group stage of the CAF Champions’ League Group. “Firstly, we have to set our sights on getting to the Group stage of the CAF Champions League. That’s our primary objective thereafter it will be easy for us now to set our eyes on getting further into the competition,” he said.
