ZESCO United coach Numba Mumamba is not a happy man following the clubs defeat to Royal Leopards of Eswatini in the CAF Champions League first leg encounter played in Manzini on Saturday last week.
The nine times Zambian Super League champions failed to sail past Royal Leopards after creating numerous scoring opportunities in a match which they controlled for most part of the full 90’ minutes.
A 66’ minute Solomon Sakala own goal ensured that Royal Leopards travel to Ndola with their heads high for the second leg encounter.
In his post-match comments, Mumamba bemoaned the team’s failure to convert clear-cut opportunities into goals.
“We are very disappointed with the defeat. This is a game we could have easily won. We created numerous chances, but we couldn’t convert those opportunities into goals. We gave away the lone goal they got due to our poor defending.”
The overall performance of the team was fine and we are happy with that. We just need to improve on our conversion rate which was very bad. We could have gone back home with five goals, but we failed to convert those chances,” Mumamba said.
ZESCO United arrived in Lusaka on Sunday afternoon with the team connecting directly to Ndola on the same day.
Mumamba will be closely monitoring his players ahead of what promises to be a mouthwatering CAF Champions League second leg encounter.
The Ndola based league giants will need to overturn a 1-0 away defeat by beating Leopards in order to ensure a smooth passage to the next stage of the qualifying series.
ZESCO United face Royal Leopards of Eswatini in the second leg fixture of the CAF Champions League scheduled for the Levy Mwanawasa stadium, Ndola on Saturday.
