Ndola, (Monday, 6th December 2021)– ZESCO United football club management wishes to congratulate Desmond Katongo on his appointment as CAF Media Officer for the upcoming TotalEnergies, 2021 Africa Cup of Nations to be held in Cameroon in January next year.
Club Chief Executive Officer, Richard Kabwe Mulenga has described Katongo’s appointment as a demonstration of the human resources the club and country can offer in the growth of the local and the African game.
“ZESCO United management is extremely delighted with this appointment. This is a huge opportunity for one of our members to further advance his knowledge in the game and contribute to the growth of this club, country and the continent at large.
“It is the mandate of ZESCO United to get the best human resources in the game. This is the more reason we didn’t hesitate to bring Katongo on board two years ago. We knew exactly what we were looking for.
“Katongo has been part of the CAF family from 2018, handling major competitions like the CAF Confederations Cup. This appointment is a clear recognition of his hard work and dedication to the growth of the African game,” Mulenga added.
Meanwhile ZESCO United Media Officer Desmond Katongo has described his appointment as a big dream come true.
“Firstly, I would like to thank CAF for giving me this rare opportunity to be part of the officials who will be involved in the organising of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations. It is a big dream come true for me. This is the biggest football showpiece on the continent that every player, official and administrator would want to be part of.
“This appointment is a huge recognition of some of the work I have been doing here for the last four years of being part of the CAF family.
“I am grateful to ZESCO United Management for their unwavering support. I am also grateful to COSAFA for having been at the focal point of my development in the game and not forgetting my family for their support throughout this journey.”
The Total Energies Africa Cup of Nations to be held in Cameroon will be the biggest continental showpiece that the ZESCO United Media Officer will be involved in following his appointment early this year as CAF Media Officer for the Total U-20 CAF Africa Cup held in Mauritania.
