ZESCO United yesterday beat Chambishi 1-nil in the MTN Super League week 20 fixture played at Chambishi stadium.
A John Chingandu first half goal was all ZESCO United needed to secure second position on the league table.
The league defending champions now have 34 points from 20 games, while Red Arrows maintained their grip at the summit of the table with 39 points following their 3-0 victory against Nkana.
ZESCO United head coach Numba Mumamba praised his charges for getting a crucial victory against Chambishi.
“We are excited to get three points away from home. The state of the pitch made it very difficult for us to play. However, what is crucial for us is the maximum points we have collected today.
“We told our team that if we can’t get another goal, at least we should be able to defend very well.
“Our defense did a tremendous job in thwarting threats posed by their strikers. I am particularly happy that we kept a clean sheet, Mumamba added.
The ZESCO United gaffer has now shifted focus to Fridays, local derby against Indeni to be played at the Levy Mwanawasa stadium.
“A derby is always an explosive encounter. We will need to start preparing for this encounter because it is another important game for us.”
