ZESCO United Head Coach Numba Mumamba has praised his side for showing great character during last Saturdays 2-1 league victory against, Nkana.
The league defending champions beat Nkana 2-1 in the MTN Week 23 fixture played at the Levy Mwanawasa stadium on Saturday last week.
Goals from Kenyan and ZESCO United striker, Vincent Oburu and club captain John Chinga’ndu ensured that the league champions collected three points against a resilient Nkana side.
“I give credit to the players for the good fighting spirit exhibited following our recent defeat to Kansanshi Dynamos. We accounted for ourselves very well and hopefully we continue the same path.
“We need to keep improving especially upfront because we could have had more than two goals. Our precision on goal wasn’t good enough. We are at a crucial stage in the league. We need to start picking maximum points,” Mumamba added.
Meanwhile Mumamba has thanked ZESCO United fans for turning up in numbers on Saturday.
The ZESCO United gaffer added that he wasn’t under pressure despite calls from some sections of club supporters calling for his departure from the club.
“I don’t believe in putting myself under pressure. My responsibility is to do what I am here for and that is to make sure that the team performs.
“The fans have their own opinion about football and for me I don’t have pressure whenever fans begin calling for my firing. This is part of the game and part of football.
“My job here is to concentrate fully and ensure that we meet our objective of defending and winning a 10th league title.
“But I also wish to say a big thank you to them (fans) for what they did today (Saturday). They came in numbers and supported the team throughout. That is how it should be and I am grateful for that.”
And Mumamba believes victory against Nkana has given his side more confidence ahead of next Saturdays game against Green Buffaloes.
“Getting a victory against Nkana gives us massive confidence. We are now going to Buffaloes on Saturday; another important game which we will need to fight so that we get three points. We are at a crucial stage of the season.”
