RETIRED BUT NOT FORGOTTEN! ABSA RECOGNISES BANDA

Former Zambia National Team and ZESCO United goalkeeper, Jacob Banda may have long retired from the beautiful game, but his name hasn’t ebbed away from the football corridors.

Banda retired last year from active football having spent over 17-years at ZESCO United.

The former legendary goalkeeper walked away from ZESCO United’s historic home stadium, Trade Fair Grounds, with his head high having won nine Super League titles, two Mosi cup titles, One Coca Cola cup title and Six Absa cups and four Charity Shield titles.

Banda’s name was today recalled. This time around not between the sticks but to be bestowed with a special award from Absa Bank during the 2022 Absa cup draws held today at the Taj Pamodzi hotel in Lusaka.

The ZESCO United legendary goalkeeper was presented with the meritorious award for having won six Absa cup titles and being the most decorated player since the tournament was launched 15 years ago.

Meanwhile, league defending Champions and Banda’s former side, ZESCO United will face Green Eagles in the quarter finals of the competition on March 12 at the Arthur Davies Stadium in Kitwe.
