MUMAMBA: TITLE LOSS PAINFUL

It has been one rollercoaster season for ZESCO United and their entire faithful supporters which has ended without a league title.

Last season the Ndola based league giants cantered away with the 2020/21 MTN Super League title with ease having accumulated a 16-point gap between themselves and second placed Zanaco.

On Sunday, ZESCO United conceded defeat to Red Arrows who for the entire season had shown the tenacity, oomph and courage to challenge the former champions for the 2021/22 league season.

Red Arrows become MTN 2021/22 league champions elect following their 3-1 drubbing of Chambishi while ZESCO United only managed to secure a point against Nkwazi in a barren draw played at Edwin Mboela stadium.

ZESCO United Head Coach could not hide his disappointment despite managing to secure a place in next seasons CAF competitions.

“We are extremely disappointed that we have lost the title. There are a lot of lessons that we have learnt from this seasons campaign. The transfer window will open another door for us to bring in players who can help us do better next season especially in CAF.

“I am delighted that we have managed to get a spot in CAF for next years calendar which is good for our team,” Mumamba said.

Reacting to Sunday’s draw against Nkwazi, Mumamba described Edwin Mboela stadium as a fortress.

“This is a very difficult place to come to and get maximum points. Nkwazi always makes life hard for any visiting team. They dominated play in the entire first half which made it hard for us to create chances.

We came back much stronger in the second half and created some good scoring opportunities for ourselves. A point away from home isn’t bad enough for us.”

ZESCO United will close the 2021/22 MTN Super League season next week Sunday against Zanaco in a match scheduled for the Levy Mwanawasa stadium, Ndola.
