PREVIEW: UNITED SIGHTS SET ON ARROWS

Nine-times Zambian Super League champions, ZESCO United will tomorrow seek to claim their first three points of the season against a familiar foe.

Four months ago, Red Arrows denied ZESCO United a chance to claim a tenth league title in a two-horse race which saw the former canter away with the coveted trophy for a historical second time.

ZESCO United abdicated the league throne managing to claim only 63 points from 34 games while the Airmen managed to secure 70 points.

The home and away victories for Red Arrows over ZESCO United proved the difference between the 2021/22 league victors and the vanquished.

ZESCO United will be hoping to rewrite the script when they face Red Arrows in this mouthwatering Saturday fixture scheduled for the Levy Mwanawasa stadium, Ndola.

Mumamba Numba expects his charges to respond with verve following last weeks 1-all draw against Prison Leopards in a week one fixture played at the independence stadium, Kabwe.

“These are easy games especially when you are playing another big team. I think it is easy for players because they are naturally motivated knowing that the game won’t be easy.

“These are matches that are won when teams take their chances. For us we are looking at Arrows with fresh wounds following last season’s loses. We have a chance to put some smiles on the faces of our home supporters,” Numba said.

“Numba will also be expecting his frontline to be more clinical in front of goal:” We didn’t create many chances against Prisons but I think it was a game that we could have scored three or more goals in the early stages of the match.

“We missed a lot of chances because our finishing wasn’t up to the standard. We have been working on our finishing so that we can improve. Chances will always come but we need to be more clinical.”

The ZESCO United gaffer expects his side to take full control of the game from the onset.

“We are playing at home which means that we have to take the first initiative. This is a game that we need to get on the pitch and stamp authority from the word go so that we can unsettle them and get an early goal.

“I also wish to share that Oburu is still out due to injury while Cyril just returned in training.”

ZESCO United will tomorrow date Red Arrows in the MTN Super League week two match.
