KEZIRONI: NKWAZI GOAL WILL BOOST MY CONFIDENCE

Kizito Kezironi has played over 70’ minutes for ZESCO United since the start of the 2022/23 Zambian Super League.

The Ugandan attacking midfielder missed ZESCO United’s 1-all draw against Prison Leopards in Kabwe before making his debut for the Ndola based league giants against Red Arrows in which the 2020/21 league champions lost 1-0 playing only 35 minutes of the second half.

The former Buildcon FC play maker made an instant impact bringing more verve and stability to the ZESCO United’s midfield.

With ZESCO United gazing at a possible barren draw against Nkwazi, Mumamba Numba substituted Kelvin Kampamba for the Ugandan.

The 25-year-old midfielder didn’t take long to stamp authority in the midfield with some fine footwork which left the hosts dazed.

With only 9’ minutes remaining on the clock, a quick interchange of passes between Mukuka and Kezironi saw the latter dribble past one defender before releasing a close range shot that left the Nkwazi goalkeeper completely beaten.

Kezironi’s goal was all ZESCO United needed to record their first win of the season.

“It has been tough, and the league has been tough. Every opponent knows that we are a big team and they all want to beat us. I thank God we managed to get our first three points and I believe it’s the start of the season for us.

“It feels good to be part of this team because there is too much competition here. Everyone is good. It is good that I scored and helped the team to get three points. I am here to perform as such I must put in my best week in and out. We must work as a team and do well in CAF,” he said.

The Ugandan expects ZESCO United to take each game as a final:” We already know that the league is tough, each opponent comes out 100 percent ready to challenge us. The good thing is that we know that and managed to win. We are taking each game as a final.”

In his post-match comments, Numba commended Kezironi for propelling ZESCO United to her first victory of the season.

“Excellent display from Kizito, he stabilized the midfield where we struggled in the first half. Kizito and Chanda brought stability and we took control of the match.”

The ZESCO United gaffer expects last Saturday’s victory to inject more confidence into the side ahead of Sundays game against Lumwana Radiants.

“This game will motivate us as we go into the next game against Lumwana. We really needed to win today. I know the fans think it will be an easy game, but small teams are usually motivated when they meet big sides.

“We will make sure that our players are at their best on Saturday so that we can collect maximum points. We will not underrate Lumwana because we know what they can do.”
