Zambian Super League giants, ZESCO United will tomorrow face Green Eagles in the MTN Super League week four fixture scheduled for the Independence stadium, Choma.
Pumped up by two recent consecutive league victories, the Ndola based side will be aiming to collect maximum points in an encounter that has hardly been fruitful for the visitors.
ZESCO United have failed to break the Zambia National Service sponsored side in the two matches the teams have played in Choma with the recent meeting ending in a barren draw.
Last season, Green Eagles prevailed over ZESCO United when the two sides met at the Levy Mwanawasa stadium, cantering away with a 2-0 victory before drawing 0-0 in Choma.
Choma’s Independence stadium has thus proved to be a fortress for the hosts who will be aiming to sustain the narrative.
This past narrative, however doesn’t sit well with ZESCO United Head Coach Mumamba Numba who is confident of changing the script.
“I must say we are taking this game seriously because we have never collected maximum points whenever we come here. This is the time for us to make sure that we go back with maximum points because I believe we have a team that can give us the points.
“We have done our preparations. We are here to make sure we get the three points. We have psyched our players to be positive in the way we approach the game. The past results should not determine the outcome of tomorrow’s game,” Numba said.
ZESCO United have recently turned a corner beating Nkwazi and Lumwana Radiants after a frustrating start to the season.
Numba believes the side’s recent victories will give them the aplomb to beat Green Eagles.
“The two wins have motivated us. I think we are coming with a lot of confidence. I think what we need is to work hard on the pitch so that we can go back home with three points.”
ZESCO United’s two recent wins have been exacerbated by the team’s ability to take the game to their opponents, dominating play in the process.
“We have to take the same approach which gave us the six points in the last two games. I think the team exhibited good workmanship which is a good sign. I think we need to pick up where we left off and probably improve on that.”
And ZESCO United will be without Spencer Sautu, Chitiya Mususu and Rodrick Kembo due to injuries.
“Spencer is still recovering, Chitiya sustained a hamstring injury while Kembo pulled his muscle in training.”
