KALABA: MAZEMBE IS TAKING THIS FRIENDLY SERIOUSLY

Five-times African CAF Champions League winners, TP Mazembe will tomorrow face ZESCO United in an international friendly scheduled for the Levy Mwanawasa stadium, Ndola at 15:00hrs.

The Congolese giants have been on two weeks preseason training in Zambia which has seen them line-up a series of friendlies against local clubs.

TP Mazembe have so far played Kabwe Warriors, Buildcon, Prison Leopards and now shift their focus towards ZESCO United.

Both Mazembe and ZESCO United have been perennial participants in the coveted CAF Champions League and CAF Confederations Cup.

The two sides will yet again be flag carriers for their respective countries in the CAF Champions League and Confederations Cup.

ZESCO United have set up a date with South African side Royal AM FC in the CAF Confederation Cup while Mazembe will face Vipers SC of Uganda in the CAF Champions League scheduled for next month.

Zambian international and TP Mazembe attacking midfielder, Rainford Kalaba believes tomorrows friendly will help the two teams prepare for CAF assignments.

“These friendlies are important to us before we start the season because It boost your morale and gives an idea of how the team is shaping up before beginning to play in different competitions,” he said.

Meanwhile Kalaba says Mazembe will be taking the friendly against ZESCO United seriously since both teams will be playing in CAF competitions.

“We are playing against another team which is playing CAF confederations Cup so I think it will be good for both teams to sharpen up their teams and get ready for champions league.

“We know we are in the final phase of preparations as such the coach will want to see the momentum of the team especially with focus towards champions league football. I think it will be important for us to give our best and show the coach that we are ready.”
