NUMBA TARGETS POWER AHEAD OF CONTINENTAL SHOWDOWN

There are only 11 days remaining before ZESCO United clash against Royal AM in the CAF Confederations Cup match number fifty-five (55) scheduled for Durban’s Moses Mabhida stadium, South Africa.

Being the only remaining flag carrier in CAF interclub football following Red Arrow’s early Champions League exit at the hands of Primiero de Agosto, ZESCO United have an important mission to save the country’s face by getting past Royal AM.

ZESCO United will however need to overcome a stern test in the local league when they come up against Power Dynamos in a match scheduled for Sunday at the Levy Mwanawasa stadium before shifting their thoughts towards CAF interclub football.

Last season Power Dynamos stunned the Ndola based league giants with 1-2 victory in an explosive fixture played at the Levy Mwanawasa stadium, Ndola.

In the last three league meetings, ZESCO United have beaten Power Dynamos once, drawn and lost once.

This record will surely give Aba Yellow a lot of oomph when they start their one-hour drive from Kitwe to Ndola.

ZESCO United on the other hand will not want history to repeat itself by beating Power Dynamos in Sunday’s encounter.

“We are taking this game seriously looking at where Power Dynamos are in the league. Our target is to usurp Power them from where they are on the league table. I think this is a game that we must fight to collect maximum points so that we can get to 11 points.

“A victory against Power Dynamos will also motivate us more as we prepare for the CAF Confederation Cup match against Royal AM. Otherwise our preparations are progressing well,” ZESCO United Head Coach Mumamba Numba said.

Numba’s aim is to sink Power and leave United fans smiling before heading into the deeper waters of continental football.

“The team is shaping up very well looking at how we started the league and where we are now. This is a team that can beat any team in the league. We just need to concentrate on preparing them psychologically especially that we lost to Power Dynamos at home in the last meeting. This is the time we must make amends and make sure that we collect points and put a smile on our fans faces.”

The ZESCO United gaffer is confident his side will carry the day owing to the teams recent showing in the league and international friendly game against TP Mazembe.

“We expect a positive attitude from everyone because that is what they have exhibited in the games we have played. We need to show character and commitment if we want to claim the three points.

“This team showed the right attitude against Mazambe. We need to sustain that tempo especially as we go into continental assignments. This type of match gave us an idea of where we are. I think this time around we are confident of performing better in the league and CAF,” Numba said.
