Zambia’s envoy in the 2022/23 CAF Confederation Cup ZESCO United begin their journey in the competition this coming Sunday against South African side Royal AM.
ZESCO United will go into Sunday’s titanic clash at the back of last Sunday’s mouthwatering barren draw against Power Dynamos.
The Ndola based Zambian league outfit could not find the back of the net despite dominating much of the proceedings.
In his post-match comments, Mumamba Numba acknowledged his sides luck of ambition in front of goal despite dominating play against Power Dynamos.
“A very interesting game we have seen today. I think we played very well despite failing to score. We dominated play but unfortunately, we are not doing well in the final third because we failed to score.
“We are dominating play but frustrated largely due to our poor execution in front of goal. Our ambition was to collect maximum points but that hasn’t happened. We need to work on the grey areas,” Numba said.
Numba expects Ugandan striker, Alfred Leku to continue improving after a spirited performance against Aba Yellow.
“Leku has played probably his best game since he came to ZESCO United. It’s unfortunate he could not get a goal. Its important for us to keep encouraging him. He will come good for us.”
Meanwhile the ZESCO United gaffer expects an improved performance when ZESCO United open their chapter in CAF interclub competition against Royal AM.
“The expectations are very high because we didn’t do well last season. Our ambition is to get into CAF Confederation Cup group stage. This game against Power Dynamos provided the best tempo and quality ahead the game against Royal AM.
“Our finishing and technique in front of goal needs to improve. I am positive we will do well this time around and am encouraged by the way the team is playing. There is light at the end of the tunnel.”
ZESCO United will be gunning for a positive result when they face South African side Royal AM on Sunday at Durban’s, Moses Mabhida stadium.
