UNITED’S FIVE STAR PERFORMANCE ENDS IN DEFEAT

If football matches are won on account of ball possession, then ZESCO United deserved to leave Sunset stadium with maximum points.

ZESCO United yesterday lost 1-0 to Zanaco in the MTN Super League week twelve fixture played at Sunset stadium, Lusaka.

Alfred Lupiya’s side dominated the hosts from start to finish with Zanaco reduced to chasing shadows for most part of the 90’ minutes.

The match which was largely played on a waterlogged surface following a heavy downpour of rains which preceded kickoff saw Zanaco draw first blood in the 54’ second through a Tshite Mweshi goal.

Mweshi’s early goal left a large chunk of ZESCO United supporters who had trekked into Zanaco’s Sunset stadium startled, fearing for the worst.

However, it was the hosts supporters who watched the entire episode of the game on the edge of their seats.

This was a classy, dominant, and cocky kind of performance from ZESCO United who outshined the hosts from the first to the final whistle.

ZESCO United came close to finding the back of the next with a 9’ minute long range shot from Collins Sikombe that went over the bar.

The visitors cleanest of chances came in the 29’ minute when John Chishimba released a pinpoint cross which found Sikombe but the former Napsa Stars midfielder failed to guide it into the net.

ZESCO United went into halftime frustrated by a Zanaco side that looked happy to leave the ball in the hands of the visitors.

The second half was another simulation of what transpired in the first half with the visitors seeing much of the ball than the hosts.

ZESCO United hardly threatened Charles Lawu’s goalmouth ending the match with a Spencer Sautu’s close range header which went over the bar.

The Ndola based league outfit will be hoping to collect maximum points when they face Green Buffaloes in a midweek fixture scheduled for the Levy Mwanawasa stadium, Ndola.
