Relegation threatened Chambishi became the latest super league side to beat ZESCO United in over a week.
ZESCO United yesterday suffered another perplexing 2-0 defeat to Chambishi in the MTN Super League week fourteen matche played at Chambishi stadium eight days after losing 0-1 to Zanaco and 1-3 to Green Buffaloes.
Two second half classic goals were all Chambishi needed to deepen the woes of a ZESCO United side that hardly threatened Rodwell Mulungushi.
A 51’ minute Malani Gondwe long range shot beat Gregory Sanjase who until then was hardly tested.
Chambishi completed a double with an exquisite goal from Francis Kasaka through a well taken free-kick.
ZESCO United acting Head Coach Alfred Lupiya described yesterdays defeat as a crisis that needs urgent attention.
“The attitude of players hasn’t changed at all. The game against Buffaloes was even better but this one was worse. It is a crisis because this is a big team. I am not happy with the way things are going. I am putting in my best but the work rate of the players disappointing. No shots on goal and they can’t defend.”
Lupiya has promised to ring changes the squad when ZESCO United host Nchanga Rangers next Saturday at the Levy Mwanawasa stadium.
“I need to find a winning formula, I need to reshuffles because some players are not putting in their best effort. We have a big squad so I need players who can work for me. I will need to pick the best players for the next task.”
Meanwhile ZESCO United Football Club management has expressed concern over the recent spate of poor results recorded in the MTN Super League.
In his statement to stakeholders, club Chairman Maxwell Saya says management will in the coming days take measures aimed at arresting the current situation at the club both at technical bench and administrative level.
“We are deeply concerned with the current form of our team. ZESCO United is a big football club whose standards should not be below par. The recent three league defeats cannot be ignored.”
Meanwhile Saya has disclosed that the club will soon be announcing a substantive head coach to take over from Mumamba Numba.
“As part of the first step in arresting the current state of our team, I wish to inform our stakeholders that the club will this week announce the new head coach,” he said.
Saya has further thanked ZESCO United supporters for their continued loyalty towards the team.
“It is a painful and tough period for everyone associated with this club especially our supporters. I wish to assure you that management hasn’t paid a blind eye to your concerns. Thank you for your patience and unwavering support in these difficult times.”
