LEOPARDS HOLD UNITED

ZESCO United resumed the 2022/23 league campaign with a 1-all draw at home to Prison Leopards in an encounter played at the Levy Mwanawasa stadium, Ndola.

The Zambian league recommenced last weekend after the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) granted clubs three weeks breaks at week 17.

United who ended 2022 with a barren draw against Forest Rangers were aiming to launch coach George Lwandamina’s third stint at the club with a victory.

The Ndola based league giants took the lead in the 48’ minute through Adrian Chama’s well taken penalty before Damiano Kola leveled matters in the 74’ minute.

Lwandamina credited the players for their spirited performance despite failing to claim three maximum points.

“The boys gave everything in the first half, and we got a goal at some stage but we could not sustain that momentum. It is unfortunate that we could not get three points. We are going through a process which will eventually give us the necessary results.”

The ZESCO United veteran gaffer also urged fans to continue rallying behind the team despite Saturdays draw.

“Supporters should be with the team both in good and bad times. It is not always that we will win all the games as such they need to be with the team. I think they saw what the boys did in the first half. They gave it everything.”

ZESCO United’s next match will be on Saturday against current league champions, Red Arrows at the Nkoloma stadium, Lusaka.

Meanwhile Saturdays draw leaves ZESCO United on 12th position three places above the drop zone with 22 points.
