Collins Sikombe’s second half hattrick was all ZESCO United needed to silence the Zambia Airforce sponsored Red Arrows in last Saturdays MTN Super League week 19 fixture.
ZESCO United beat Red Arrows 0-3 in a thrilling encounter played at Lusaka’s, Nkoloma stadium.
Club first assistant coach, Tenant Chilumba believes Saturdays victory will enhance the teams spirit.
“We need to congratulate the boys for a job well-done. We spent much of last week talking about the need to get a win and everyone wanted it. I think this victory is good for our confidence, but it is crucial to remain focused.
Everyone knows and understands that we don’t belong where we are. Today we were a bit under pressure because we came from a draw. It was important for us not to concede in the first 10 minutes of the game,” Chilumba said.
And Chilumba commended ZESCO United Head Coach George Lwandamina for the extensive work done on the teams striking force.
“I should congratulate the head coach for what he did with our strikers. He has done very well especially in sharpening the frontline. He spent much of last week talking to our strikers about the need for us to start getting them goals. The team has in the past struggled in front goal, but I think today you can see that there is progress.
“The retreat in Livingston was also great because we worked on coordination, shared the philosophy as you know we have brought in some new players.
ZESCO United will this coming Saturday host Nkwazi FC in the MTN Super League week 20 fixture scheduled for the Levy Mwanawasa stadium.
