Lazarus Kambole bagged a brace in ZESCO United’s 3-0 win over Green Eagles in the MTN Super League week 22 fixture played at the Levy Mwanawasa stadium on Saturday.
ZESCO United took an early first half lead through exciting attacking midfielder, Mukuka Chanda.
Chanda scored in the 2’ minute of the first half after Eswatini National Team captain Lindo Mkhonta produced a sumptuous cross which the former intercepted before releasing a ferocious shot which grazed passed Given Kambila.
8’ minutes later Green Eagles almost levelled matters but Cyril Chibwe produced a brilliant save to deny Aaron Musore.
United continued to dominate proceedings but failed to capitalize on the numerous early chances, taking the game into halftime with only a lone goal.
The second half started with ZESCO United desperate to increase the lead while Eagles were hoping to find an early equalizer.
With both teams coming toe-to-toe in the opening 10’ minutes of the second half, Mother nature wasn’t shy from religiously mourning her way into an exciting fixture.
A heavy downpour of rainfall made FAZ referee Derrick Kafuli to stop the match in the 55’ minute with hopes of resuming. However, the match was to be completely cancelled after the pitch became unplayable, forcing the officials to move the game to the next day (Sunday).
If Saturday was meant for Mukuka, Sunday was to prove vital for Lazarus Kambole who had a quiet game the day before.
A 61’ minute cross from Kelvin Kampamba was met by the former Kaizer Chiefs hitman who didn’t blink, scoring his second goal in two games.
Kambole got his brace in the 92’ minute of additional time giving ZESCO United an important win ahead a mouthwatering fixture against Power Dynamos scheduled for Kitwe on Saturday.
