UNITED FACE ABSA CHAMPIONS IN GRAND LEAGUE FINISH

Nine times Zambian Super League champions ZESCO United will close the 2022/23 League calendar with a titanic clash against their cross-town rivals Forest Rangers scheduled for Dola Hill on Saturday.

With the league title and second place already secured by Power Dynamos and MUZA FC respectively, United will be hoping to consolidate a third-place finish ahead of Green Buffaloes, Napsa Stars and Green Eagles.

Week 34 carries all ingredients of a cup final with four teams in contention for a third-place finish. United occupy third position with 52 points, Green Buffaloes 52, Napsa Stars 50 and Green Eagles 50.

United Head coach George Lwandamina will be determined to ensure that his side compensates for their failure to secure a league title and missing out on CAF with a win against a pumped-up Forest Rangers who are just from sealing their first ever Absa Cup title.

Forest Rangers beat MUZA FC 2-0 on Saturday ending the Mazabuka based side’s fairly tale journey in the 2022/23 league campaign.

United will come into Saturday’s match against Forest Rangers after back-to-back victories over Nchanga Rangers and Nkana respectively.

In their last meeting, United and Forest Rangers settled for a barren draw at the Levy Mwanawasa stadium, Ndola.

United’s competitors for a third-place finish Green Buffaloes will host Zanaco while Napsa Stars will travel to Prison Leopards.

Green Eagles have a daunting task ahead of them as they seek a win against relegation threatened Nkwazi football club.
