ZESCO United defender, Samson Mkandawire is determined to prove his worth after being included into the provisional 29-member Zambia National Team squad earmarked to face Ivory Coast on 17 June 2023 at the Levy Mwanawasa stadium in Ndola.
Mkandawire who has for the last three years become a major part of the United establishment intends to repay Chipolopolo Head Coach Avram Grant for including him in the provisional squad.
“I am very happy to be among the players who have been called to the national team ahead of the game against Ivory Coast. It is special because this is my first call-up meaning I have to work extremely hard,” Mkandawire said.
And Mkandawire is unfazed by the competition he is likely to face when he joins the National Team camp.
“Competitions is expected because this is highest level of the game. Very few players get to be picked to play for their national teams as such I expect a lot of competition in every position. I will work hard to repay the head coach for selecting me ahead of other players.”
Zambia only needs a draw against the Elephants to secure a place at next years TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations to be held in Ivory Coast.
