NYA: I DON’T REGRET JOINING UNITED

Nigerian defender, Denis Nya has described his move to ZESCO United as a career turning point following an impressive run in the just ended 2022/23 MTN Super League season.

Nya who signed a two-year contract with United in December last year from Nigerian Premier League side Akwa United has been one of the standout performers for the nine times Zambian super league champions.

United finished the season in third position behind Zambia’s envoy in the CAF Confederations Cup MUZA FC and league champions Power Dynamos.

Nya is, however unfazed by the club’s failure to claim a tenth title and missing out on CAF.

“I joined ZESCO United at a time when the team was struggling to catchup with the top four. We were brought here to stabilize things and to hopefully help the team get a continental slot. Things stabilized, unfortunately we couldn’t get into CAF. I am very sure if there were two or three games more to play, we could have probably finished second.”

Meanwhile Nya believes his move from Nigeria to the Zambian league has helped him develop mentally as a player.

“I don’t regret coming here because this is one of the best teams in Africa. The Zambian league is also one of the most competitive. My mentality as a player has changed a lot because here you must play like a champion everywhere you go. There are no weak teams in this league. I have developed a winning mentality,” he said.

And Nya believes United has the players capable of winning the league next season.

“This team has arguably the best players and coaches in the league. I am very confident that things will be different next season. We have what it takes to be champions in the coming season.”
