Zambia’s envoys in the 2020/2021 CAF Confederations Cup, Green Eagles will this Friday host 2016 CAF Champions League semi-finalists, ZESCO United in the FAZ/MTN Super League week Eleven fixture scheduled for Independence stadium, Choma.
The two sides will clash in what will be the last game of the year 2020 with the local league going on recess on December. 19 2020 and only resuming on January, 9 2021.
Last week the Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) decided to reschedule this fixture to January 20, 2020. However, a change of heart by the men mandated to run the Zambian game brought the game forward to Friday, 18 2020.
ZESCO United have been in fine form recording 3 victories and 1 draw in the last 4 games. The former league champions beat Prison Leopards 1-0, Kitwe United 0-1, drew 0-0 against Red Arrows and recently triumphed against a resilient Indeni side by a 3-2 score line.
The Ndola based giants currently sit on 2nd position on the FAZ/MTN Log table with eighteen points while Buildcon currently occupy the top slot with similar points but with a better goal difference.
ZESCO United head coach, Numba Mumamba will be happy with recent results in what is turning out to be a tough first half of the season with everyone looking over their shoulders.
The gaffer will know the importance of getting a crucial three points or at at least a point from Eagles who have thus far been impressive in CAF.
Mumamba will be delighted to welcome back creative attacking midfielder Kelvin Kampamba who recently sustained an injury and subsequently missed both the Red Arrows and Indeni game.
He will further be hopeful that ZESCO United players returns the same dynamism shown when the 8-times league champions beat Indeni in a thrilling week Ten encounter.
Meanwhile, Zambia’s envoy in the CAF Confederation Cup, Green Eagles will be hoping to make life extremely difficult for ZESCO United when the latter travel to Choma, especially after losing to Nkana by a 3-1 margin.
Eagles who currently sit on Eleventh position on the log table with Eleven points will want to use the ZESCO United game both as a potential lifeline in the league and as a preparatory match for the upcoming CAF assignment against Cameroonian side, Cotonsport Football Club.
ZESCO United will today set up base in Lusaka before leaving for Choma tomorrow morning.
