ZESCO United coach, Numba Mumamba has urged his players to remain focused as the club continues with its impressive run of form in the 2020/2021 FAZ/MTN Super League which has seen the former league champions win seven league games uninterruptedly.
Last Saturday, ZESCO United beat Green Buffaloes 0-1 in the FAZ/MTN Super league week 23 game played at Sunset stadium courtesy of a spectacular well taken volley from team captain, John Ching’andu.
ZESCO United have maintained their seven-point lead at the top of the FAZ/MTN league table.
In his post-match comments, Mumamba expressed delight over the team’s performance urging his players not to drop their guard.
“I must say I am very excited winning this game against Green Buffaloes. What we are telling our players is to be consistent and to continue working hard. Winning seven games in a row is not an easy thing.
We shouldn’t go to sleep because we are at a crucial stage of the league. If we relax, we may drop points. We take each game differently, with a lot of character,” Mumamba said.
Mumamba was particularly impressed with ZESCO United’s ability to control the game from the first to the final whistle.
“Like I said during the course of our preparations for the game, this wasn’t going to be an easy game. Buffaloes showed a lot of resistance but the good thing is that we dominated play right from the start. That’s how we managed to get a goal.”
The ZESCO United gaffer has further commended his players for maintaining their winning run.
“The team is doing very well and I wish to give credit to the players for their applications especially during the games. That is what we expect from a team like ours. We need to work very hard so that we can continue picking-up points.
Today we upped our game if you compare to the way we played against Zanaco. We didn’t play to the expectation of everyone against Zanaco but the good thing is we got a victory. Today, we showed a lot of character from the first to the final whistle. That is what we expected from them.”
Saturday’s victory against Buffaloes means that ZESCO United have accumulated 46 points from 22 games whilst second placed Zanaco Football Club have 39points from 22 games.
ZESCO United will now switch focus to this Saturday’s Absa cup semi-final game against Konkola Blades to be played at Kitwe’s Arthur Davies stadium.
