Kenyan international striker Jesse Were says ZESCO United players are geared to be crowned 2020/2021 Super League champions elect ahead of Sunday’s league clash against relegation haunted Napsa Stars.
ZESCO United only need two points from the remaining four games to reclaim the league title they lost to Nkana Football Club last season.
Speaking after today’s morning training session held at Ndola’s Trade Fair grounds, Were says ZESCO United will take Sunday’s clash like a final.
“It is an important game because you never know the outcome of the matches ahead of us. Every game is different especially that Napsa are fighting relegation whilst we are fighting for the championship. It will be good for us if we can wrap up the title as soon as possible,” he said.
The ZESCO United goal poacher disclosed that club players are focused and determined to clinch the league title before the final day of the season.
“Everyone here is very focused because they know what is at stake. We won’t take this game lightly. Everyone will be coming into this game knowing that any slipups will be dangerous. The other team is also thinking the same because they are in relegation. As such we will take this game very seriously,” he added
Meanwhile ZESCO United head coach Numba Mumamba has urged his players to take Sundays game like a final.
“The team is in good shape and fully focused on the task at hand. This is a very crucial game as it will have an implication on whether we are crowned champions or not. We want to conclude our business as soon as possible so that we concentrate on preparations for continental football.
Our preparations for this game are on course and we have clearly told our boys to take this fixture like a final. We are very happy that most players who had minor injuries are back in training. We will have a very clear picture of who is likely to play before Sunday.”
