ZESCO United coach, Numba Mumamba has praised the club for investing in developmental teams.
Mumamba says ZESCO United’s developmental structures will make it easy for the club to sustain its’ dominance in the domestic league and remain competitive in continental competitions.
The club gaffer was speaking on Friday after overseeing developmental teams’ conclude their weeklong trials which saw 4 out of the 33 players selected for further development.
“I must say there is great talent here. We have had a good look at them during this weeklong program. These trials are crucial because they will help us to further develop the young ones. These players will add great value to our main team,” he said.
Mumamba disclosed that the selected players will be drafted into the ZESCO United squad that departs next week for pre-season camping scheduled for Eastern Province.
“The ones we have selected will be sent to Malaite Rangers for further exposure and development. Remember Malaite Rangers are playing in National Division One. This also makes it easy for us to monitor their progress.
The selected four will also have a great opportunity to travel with our squad for preseason so that they can acquaint themselves mostly with what goes on at the top level of the Zambian game.”
The developmental trials which started on Monday last week and concluded on Friday saw Benson Mulenga(ZESCO Mailate Rangers Winger), Albert Mobola ( ZESCO Malaite, Midfielder), Paul Banda(ZESCO Shockers, Winger) and Emmanuel Zulu(ZESCO Shockers, Winger) get an opportunity of their lifetime to on the books of ZESCO United.
ZESCO Malaite Rangers Winger Benson Mulenga says he can’t wait to train with ZESCO United senior players.
“The temple from the beginning of the week was very high as everyone wanted to prove that they can play. I had to prove that I deserved a place among the best players that would be on the final list. It is a dream come true to be selected among the best players. It is motivating because now I have a big opportunity to prove to everyone that I can play at the highest level,” Mulenga said.
Meanwhile ZESCO Shockers, Midfielder Emmanuel Zulu is determined to break into the ZESCO United main squad.
“My dream has always been to play for ZESCO United football club. So when I left Ndola to join ZESCO Shockers my target was to work hard and return here. When I was coming for these trials, my main aim was to remain with the main team. I will work extra hard so that I can earn my place at the club.”
