Former Trident star player, Pedro Miguel yesterday netted his debut goal for ZESCO United when the defending champions faced Kabwe Warriors in the MTN Super League week 19 fixture held at the Levy Mwanawasa stadium.
Miguel scored the only goal of the match which saw the defending league champions move to 3rd position on the league table with equal number of points as second placed Green Buffaloes.
Red Arrows control the proceedings at the summit of the table with 36 points from 19 games while ZESCO United have 31.
Miguel latched onto a Spencer Sautu cross to tap in at close rage leaving Kabwe Warriors goalkeeper Scott Ngokene helpless.
In his post-match comments, ZESCO United head coach Numba Mumamba expressed happiness with the team’s performance.
“It is a good result for us especially that we are coming from a loss. Getting this win is crucial for our motivation as we prepare for the next game. Warriors came to the party in the second half, but we managed to stand strong.”
The ZESCO United gaffer was however, disappointed that the team couldn’t take advantage of the scoring chances they created.
“That has been our trend, we have created many chances in most games, but our finishing is what is letting us down. We will continue working on this.”
And Mumamba has congratulated the new ZESCO United striker for scoring his debut goal for the club.
“He has done very well especially that this is his first game for the club. He needs to be encouraged especially that this is a new environment for him. We don’t need to put him under pressure,” Mumamba concluded.
